A 'Pokemon' MOBA Game IS Coming To Murder Your Wallet

The Pokemon Company just recently announced Pokemon Unite, a 5 v 5 MOBA that pits players against each other in battle. If you're not familiar with the concept of a MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena), it's a game format that sort of serves as a microcosm of a team-based RPG and is used by games such as League of Legends and DOTA. Games are played in matches as you work with your team to level up and destroy the enemy team's base. Again, if any of that terminology felt confusing to you (and I imagine it would for literally anyone who hasn't played a MOBA) then perhaps it would just be easier if I showed it to you:

It's a fun time, and Pokemon MOBA feels like it could be the type of combination that chocolate and peanut butter could only dream of (providing they actually make a good game.) It's baffling that it took them this long to come up with a MOBA using Pokemon as it seems so congruent. Pokemon typically have four move slots. Characters in League of Legends (the most popular MOBA) typically have four move slots. Pokemon level up and evolve. League of Legends characters level-up (and sometimes evolve). How is it that they made an Adventure Time MOBA before trying out old money-mouse Pikachu?

Seriously, I can't stress how much $$$ this has the potential to make. League of Legends, hits 8 million concurrent players every day. Pokemon is ... well, it's Pokemon. It's the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, with 90 billion in total franchise revenue. If combining the two doesn't net the Pokemon Company at least the GDP of Maryland, then I'm going to be in shock. Yeah, a thundershock...

Except, in this case, the only thing the Pokemon Company will by frying is our wallets. Hopefully, they'll make a game where we'll be glad to let them.
